The NATIONAL INITIATIVE TO END CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

The National Initiative to End Corporal Punishment (NIECP), in collaboration with the US Alliance Against the Hitting of Children, New York Foundling and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, is working to change attitudes and behavior regarding the use of corporal punishment.

NIECP’s strategic plan is to end corporal punishment across the spectrum of prevention, by:

  • Educating professionals
  • Promoting community and parent education
  • Changing organizational practices (e.g., creating No Hit Zones)
  • Fostering coalitions and networks
  • Strengthening both parents’ and non-parents’ knowledge and skills about non-violent discipline
  • Influencing policy

The NIECP is run by an executive committee that is responsible for the overall planning, coordination and decision making for national efforts to end corporal punishment in the United States. Seven committees are working to help achieve the overall strategic goal to end corporal punishment:

  • Policy committee
  • Training and Resource committee
  • No Hit Zone committee
  • Faith committee
  • Evaluation committee
  • Communications and social media committee
  • Fundraising committee

For more information about the NIECP or learning about volunteer opportunities, please contact Dr. Mel Scheinderman at mel.schneiderman@nyfoundling.org

What do we mean by Ambassador for Children?

Our Mission

The U.S. Alliance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that brings together individuals, groups, and organizations to create a unified voice calling for, and working toward, the end of all forms of physical and emotional punishment against children, especially in schools and homes.

The Alliance, through education and legal means, seeks to end all social justifications and legal authorizations of corporal punishment. Achieving these goals will give children the same protection from this sort of physical violence as is already enjoyed by adults under state and federal law.
